Post Olympics Dog Slaughter
“…part of his duties including occasionally euthanizing animals, who were old, ill, injured or where there were unwanted puppies.” source-Vancouver Sun 1st Feb. 2011
What Boycottwhistler.com hopes to accomplish, is raising awareness to this horrific practice of killing sled dogs when other alternatives are available. While sled dog tour companies (such as the ones who operate out of Whistler BC) may see this practice as “feasible” or “practical”, we want to show these same companies that slaughtering dogs/puppies on a yearly or seasonal basis IS WRONG. So what can sled dog tour companies do??
There are alternatives to brutal slaughter…
By notifying humane organizations such as the SPCA – Humane Society in Canada and the U.S., you can help find homes for these dogs that you no longer find profitable. If they cannot help you-Don’t stop asking! There are dozens of rescue groups throughout Canada and the United States who specialize in breeds of Alaskan sled dogs. There are thousands of people out there that will gladly help by adopting dogs or unwanted puppies from your company. You can avoid senseless killing and maybe provide a happy retirement, or the start of a new life for a puppy in a welcoming home.
Please spay or neuter your dogs.
By preventing unwanted puppies, you in part are assuring a happy and healthy pack of dogs. Not only does this help to balance out the pack, NOT having to kill unwanted puppies is a great feeling and will show the world you care about your animals that work for you, and your customers will feel better knowing that you operate your business responsibly.
The BC SPCA has displayed a complete and utter failure to the caring and treatment of animals within it’s provence. From it’s own website…. “ June 10, 2011 update
The BC SPCA investigation continues into the alleged inhumane killing of sled dogs last February.Evidence is being gathered from the bodies of more than 56 dogs exhumed from a mass grave near Whistler. Charges of animal cruelty could be recommended as early as September, but it will be up to Crown Counsel to pursue the matter in court.
The remains of the dogs are being treated with the utmost respect and dignity and the BC SPCA will ensure a proper burial for the animals.”
What is truly terrible here??? The fact that the BC SPCA treats slaughtered dogs with more respect and caring than those that are living and suffering right in front of their own eye’s.
