FLASH **Jan. 2013** Canadian court hands down probation for Sled Dog Slaughter King Pin… In what is a light sentance for the man/organization responsible, “Judge” Steve Merrick gave a free pass to Steve Fawcett for the horrible act in 2010. PLEASE say no to these horrible companys that are allowed to kill these wonderful animals at the end of each winter sled dog season. And PLEASE DO NOT visit the town of Whistler B.C. Why on earch would any sane person ever visit a region like this when shooting sled dogs is looked the other way.
FLASH **July 2011** “To date, no provinces or the federal government have opted to regulate the sled dog industry directly in terms of registration, licensing, and formal codes of conduct.” from the Sled Dog Task Force
Hello and welcome to the home of Boycott Whistler. In the next few weeks and months, content will be added to outline the reason for this general call to Boycott Whistler B.C. (New content here)
In April of 2010, a sled dog tour company decided that with post Olympics business down, would savagely slaughter 100 of its sled dogs. We here at Boycott Whistler find this action completely uncalled for and unnecessary. While it is often shown that when such appalling events occur, it is seen to take action against an entire Province or Country. We here feel that is NOT the correct course to take.
Instead-We are calling for all tourism dollars to stop flowing into Whistler B.C. Canada.
We are also calling on both the United States and Canadian governments to put an end to the use of sled dogs for means of sportsmanship and profit. As well as tourism company’s that employ the use of sled dogs. (We however do not take issue with sled dogs used among private individuals/family’s that require safe travel)
For now, here is a link to a recent FOX news story on this horrible blood bath.
Here’s the AP (Associated Press) link too.
According to the Vancouver Sun article of February 1st, Tourism Whistler continued to market the organization responsible for the slaughter. (Except for its sled dog rides) A recent press release from Whistler.com has clarified that the organization responsible for the massacre is at present, no longer being represented on its official website and Visitor Center. However, the remaining sled dog company’s are still be represented on the Whistler’s website.
Also, according to the article, the normal procedure is to take the dog out into the woods on its own, given a meal, then shoot the dog in the head to end its life. This apply’s to dogs that are unwanted newborn puppy’s-Old dogs-Or dogs that are injured and killing said animal is the best option.
Given that this has the appearance of normal-acceptable behavior, supporting city’s and organizations that condone this behavior must be avoided. As many company’s fall under the umbrella of the local tourism board, (including other sled dog tour company’s) supporting those businesses further turn a blind eye to the issue of slaughtering dogs in this fashion. At present time, no legal action has taken place, and we wish that this type of behavior will someday be no longer acceptable among the greater Whistler BC area.

Also from the Sleddog Task Force….
“The Task Force determined that there is currently no legal requirement to report inhumane treatment of an animal. Howwever, the public at large is strongly encouraged to make such reports to the BC SPCA so that complaints may be investigated and action taken as necessary.” Given the fact that BC SPCA has received such complaints-And to date has taken no such action against those involved, we encourage everyone to let officials both in the City of Whistler and B.C. know that you don’t agree with this type of practice.
